What it is
The Hialuronpen is a pressure device: it pushes hyaluronic acid through the skin in a high-pressure jet, with no needle. The product disperses into the surface layers of the treated area, where hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water.
That "no needle" changes the experience a great deal: there is no puncture and the risk of bruising is far lower than with an injection. It also changes the result: the work is more superficial, the effect subtler, and it lasts less than an injected filler.
This has to be said plainly so nobody arrives with the wrong expectation: this is not a hyaluronic acid filler injected by a doctor. It is something else — gentler, for someone after hydration and a touch of volume without moving into injectables.

Better to wait, or to check first, if…
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Under-18s
- An active cold sore — and also if you are prone to them even without a current flare: talk to your doctor before booking
- Infection, a wound, an ulcer or inflammation in the area
- Autoimmune disease in an active phase, immunosuppressive treatment and ongoing cancer treatment
- Clotting disorders or anticoagulant treatment, without medical clearance
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or to topical anaesthetics
- A tendency to keloids
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Current or recent isotretinoin
- Recent injected fillers, threads or toxin in the area: margins have to be respected
- Anyone after an obvious change in volume: for that, a medical consultation
If you have had, or currently have, injected filler material in the area, always say so. It changes what can and cannot be done, and there are cases where the right answer is to refer you to a medical consultation.

We look at your area, your symmetry and what can realistically be achieved. If what you want cannot be done with this, we tell you.

Cleansing and topical anaesthetic
The area is cleaned and topical anaesthetic is applied to make it more comfortable.

Point by point
The area is worked point by point, alternating sides and comparing continuously to keep the balance.

Shaping
The area is shaped and we go over the result with you in front of the mirror.

Aftercare
Cold if needed, and the instructions for the days that follow.
What it feels like
A sharp tap and a click at each point, more surprising than painful. With topical anaesthetic it is easy to handle. The area is a little swollen at the end.
Before and after
Before you come
- Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatories the day before unless they are prescribed: they encourage swelling
- If you are prone to cold sores, discuss it with your doctor first
- Come with no makeup on the area
- Do not book it just before an event: the area swells
After the session
- Swelling and the odd red point in the first few hours: that is expected
- Gentle cold if it feels comfortable, without pressing
- Avoid heat, the sauna, intense exercise and alcohol the same day
- Do not massage or press the area
- No makeup over the area that day
When you see it
At first it looks like more than will remain, because of the swelling. The real result appears once that goes down, and it is a subtle change: hydration, plumpness and a touch of volume.
What it does not do
- It is not an injectable filler and does not claim to give the same result
- It does not correct significant asymmetries
- It does not fill deep folds or marked wrinkles
- It is not a medical treatment and is not performed as one
- It does not last for years: it lasts what it lasts, and that is said upfront
